Bullion King Lake and Red Mountain Pass Mining Area

While camping at the Ophir Pass area the weekend of August 16-18, Gary and I first enjoyed yet another trip to our favorite lake, up Porphyry Gulch to Bullion King Lake.  We are happy to report that this time we didn’t get skunked and instead caught enough fish for dinner and a few extras to put in the freezer for future meals.  A fun and relaxing way to spend the day.

Then on August 17, we spent the day exploring the Red Mountain Mining District and Brown Mountain with Kevin Heckman.  Gary and I had only limitedly been to the Red Mountain area several years back when we got mixed up and lost trying to follow all of the different mining roads in the area.  This time we were grateful to see and learn so much more of the area taking advantage of Kevin extensive experience and knowledge of the mining district. Thank you, Kevin!!! Really enjoyed! Lastly, we also drove up to Browns Mountain where Kevin hadn’t been before. The views and scenery were unlimited.
